DANCE RULES 2012

To be eligible to qualify for your Age Championship you must enter AND dance in the Improvisation section of that genre.
*Please Note: For age groups 9 and over all sections will be performed in the Theatre.
*Please Note: Music for Routines needs to be age appropriate and any lyrics must not contain any offensive language. The Committee reserves the right to withhold prizes if the routine is deemed offensive.
DANCE RULES
1. No routine may be repeated except in Junior and Senior Scholarships. Change of costume and/or music does not constitute a new routine.
2. No Pointe shoes to be worn in any 12 years and under sections.
3. Only ONE entry is allowed for each individual competitor in any solo section. A competitor may not perform in an age group other than their age EXCEPT in open class.
4. One competitor only to submit entry for DUO/TRIO section. An individual dancer may compete a maximum of twice in any DUO/TRIO section, provided each entry is with a different partner.
5. Curtain (if available), will be used, when requested for: Baby Dance, Championships and Groups/Troupes.
6. GROUPS/TROUPES – Groups must consist of at least four competitors. Each competitor may only appear a maximum of twice in a section from one studio. (This rule does not apply to public/private school groups) If a competitor is a bona fide student from more than one studio they may only perform two dance routines for each dance studio per section.
7. No rehearsals are allowed on stage during the Eisteddfod.
8. WALTZ TAP – 6/8 and 3/4 time.
TAP ENSEMBLE – Music must consist of 16 bars of Waltz, 16 bars Slow 4/4 and 32 bars of Speed. Tap Ensembles cannot be performed in Tap Solo Section.
9. CONTEMPORARY – Free movements and original choreography content set to any music.
10. RESTRICTED SECTIONS – Apply to those competitors who have not won a first prize in that section or category in any Eisteddfod, up to the closing date of entries. Competitors may only compete in either age or restricted sections, not both.
11. IMPROVISATIONS – The adjudicator will choose the music.
GIRLS –Plain fabric leotard (no holographic Lycra), and dance tights. Ballet skirts can be worn for Classical Ballet and Modern Improvisations. Plain jazz pants/shorts will be allowed for Jazz/Tap Improvisation only.
BOYS – Plain tight fitting dancewear – tights and singlet or leotard. Plain jazz pants/shorts will be allowed for Jazz, Tap and Modern Improvisation only.
12. No vocals on CDs for Demi-Character or Song and Dance – with the exception of group sections. No jingle taps allowed.
13. POINT SCORE – Aggregate point score will be 1st / 8; 2nd / 5; 3rd / 3; HC / 1. Championships are not included in Points score. Please Note: Baby Dance (Section 409) is not included in the 6 years and under Point Score Aggregate.
Only competitors receiving regular tuition in dance at a school or studio within 2795, 2799 & 2787 are eligible for local aggregates. Refer to General Rule 18.

 

14. MUSIC – There will be an official person provided to play music. All music must be submitted on good quality CD only, clearly marked with Competitor's Name, Competitor Number and Studio. Please state on CD whether competitor starts on stage or off stage for music official. TAPES are not acceptable. There is no facility for the playing of tapes. Only one dance on each CD and music will be played as it is recorded on the CD. These should be handed in to table at the back of Hall/Theatre at least 10 minutes before section begins. There is a charge of $1.00 per competitor for the playing of CDs. Competitors must be able to provide a back up CD, if required due to technical problems.
15. Videos and photos will once again be made available through RSVP of Dubbo. Please fill out the permission slip attached to the entry form. There is no obligation to purchase any material but, in accordance with child protection protocol, written permission to film your child is a necessity.
16. SECTIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS MAY BE COMBINED IF INSUFFICIENT ENTRIES.
17. Timing in Dance Sections, the music will be faded out when the time is exceeded.
18. Behaviour - Good sportsmanship is expected from all competitors and audience at all times during a performance. Loud or inappropriate audience behaviour may result in disqualification of the performer/group at the discretion of the adjudicator or committee. 19. CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
PLEASE NOTE: Competitors who have entered in Restricted sections are not eligible for Championships.
NO ROUTINES ARE TO BE REPEATED IN CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS.
BALLET – Competitors must perform 2 dances, 1 Classical and 1 Demi-Character.
To qualify, a competitor must have entered and danced in a Classical Ballet Solo, Demi Character and Ballet Improvisation in their own age group.
Pointe shoes are not to be worn by competitors 12 years of age and under.
MODERN / CONTEMPORARY – Competitors must perform 2 dances, 1 Modern Expressive/ Lyrical and 1 Contemporary.
To qualify, a competitor must have entered and danced in a Modern Improvisation plus one of the following: Modern Expressive/Lyrical Solo or Contemporary Solo, in their own age group.
NATIONAL CHARACTER – One dance only to be performed.
To qualify, a competitor must have entered and danced in either age or open National Character section.
JAZZ – One dance only to be performed.
To qualify, a competitor must have entered and danced in a Jazz Solo and a Jazz Improvisation section in their own age group.
TAP – Competitors must perform 2 dances consisting of 1 Slow Tap and 1 Speed.
To qualify, a competitor must have entered and danced in a Tap Solo and Tap
Improvisation plus one of the following: Waltz Tap, Tap Ensemble, Fast Tap
in their own age group.
